Wildschönau

“Hiking-paradise Wildschönau“, that is how our beautiful and quiet valley describes itself. True to its name, it is perfect for beautiful hiking tours! The valley of Wildschönau is the highest valley in Austria. The gondola lift takes you quickly up the mountain to the top of the “Markbajoch“ in Niederau (1500m), or to the “Schatzberg“ (1750m) in Auffach. There you will find wonderful hiking routes. During the summer months, the use of the gondola lift is completely free.

But the scenery in the many valleys and narrow gorges (klamms) is equally impressive. A visit to Kundler Klamm is highly recommended! A lot of tradition has been preserved in Wildschönau: old farms; houses in the classic Tirol style; musical performances; dance and folk fairs, for example the “Talfest“ (valley festival) and the well-known “Almabtrieb“ (cattle parade).

Next to Niederau are the old villages of Oberau, Thierbach and Auffach, which also belong to the area of the Wildschönau.
